How Does This Affect You?
There is a common refrigerant for residential air conditioning systems and heat pumps called R-22 refrigerant (also known as the brand FREON) that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has deemed harmful to the environment. The EPA has begun to regulate the R-22 refrigerant, and the use of those products will eventually be eliminated.
It is important to know that this R-22 ban will not go into full effect until 2020. So if you are thinking about buying a new heating and air conditioning system for your home, make sure you aren’t purchasing a system that uses R-22 refrigerant.
